Despite the constant threat of rain the Skate Competition was
a huge success! Fifteen skaters signed up overall and Milosport did an amazing job with judging and prizes..
The event staff got to the park at 7:00 am to start setting up. We were debating about cancelling the competition because of the threat of rain, but then some skaters showed up early to start practicing. Our Events Supervisor, Brian, made the call that even if one skater wanted to skate we should keep going with the competition. So we did, and it didn't even rain on us.
At 9:00 am, the official warm up time, we had about 40 kids
skating the park but only three signed up to compete. By this time Milosport
was there and every few minutes they called out for the skaters to come sign
up. We got a few more kids to sign up, but not the number we were aiming for.
So we decided to showcase the awesome prizes Milo Sport brought. Skaters started
signing up after seeing the deck, t-shirts, hats, and more. The prize bags were packed and the skaters realized it
was well worth the $10 registration fee.
First place prize included:
- A skate board deck from
Milosport
- A Neff hat
- A Neff beanie
- A Milosport hat, shirts
and key chain
- A Vans Hat
- Two new phone cases
- Vans water bottle
- A Skull Candy necklace
- Slider gloves
- A gift card to Hang Time Sports
- A gift card to Sub Zero
- Candy
- Sunglasses
- An awesome poster
Second and third place got similar prizes too!
The competitors skated in two three-minute heats showcasing
their best tricks and jumps. Milo Sport announced the rounds and names of the
skaters in the heat. Skaters were grinding nose side and board side, landing
heel flips and double kick flips. In the end, we had 9 winners from three
different skill levels.
We had a great turnout of skaters and spectators, and we are
looking to make next year’s Skate Competition even bigger and better!
