Pioneer Day is celebrated on July 24th to commemorate
the Mormon pioneer’s passage into the Salt Lake Valley from Emigration Canyon
on July 24th, 1847. Provo City Parks and Recreation puts on the
Pioneer Day Extravaganza every year, to give the community an opportunity to
experience some of the Pioneer traditions, and to celebrate Utah’s rich
heritage.
When is the event?
The event is on Friday, July 24th from 10:00am to
2:00pm.
Where is the event?
The event will take place at North Park: 500 N 500 W, Provo.
North Park is conveniently located next to the Recreation Center, the Daughters
of Utah Pioneers Museum, and the Sons of Utah Pioneers Village.
What activities will be
available at the event?
Live performances by: Cody Robbins, Utah Old Time Fiddlers, and
Wulf Mountain.
Pie-oneer Cook-off: 10 pies baked by local residents, judged by
local celebrities and experts. Free samples for everyone afterwards! Registration for the Pie Cook off is full for this year.
Dutch Oven Cook-off: Local residents will submit their dish for
judging, and then samples will be given out! Register HERE
Activities: Pony Rides, Petting Zoo, Obstacle Course,
Sling-shot Saloon, Duck Hunt, Butter Churning, Mustache Craft, Pony Express
Scavenger Hunt, Rootbeer Chug, Panning for Gold, Face Painting.and more. (We don’t want to give it all away!)
Farmer’s Market: Food trucks, food vendors, locally made goods,
and farmers.
Pioneer Village: Live reenactment and interactive activities.
Native American Dancers: Live music and dance performance.
Demonstrations: Baking, quilting, sawing, and other demos.
How much does it cost?
There is no cost for admission to the event. Most activities are
free, including Pony Rides and Petting Zoo. Food trucks and the farmer’s market
will cost money.
What age group is this
event for?
The event is open for all ages with many activities targeted at
children and families.
Where should I park?
Plan to arrive early and perhaps walk a few blocks. The
Recreation Center parking lot will fill fast, so try using the Timpanogos
Elementary School parking lot instead.
Can we dress in costume?
Yes, both adults and children can come in pioneer costume.
